PLEASE READ OUR DAHLIA TUBER SALES POLICY BEFORE MAKING A PURCHASE.
We have attempted to answer common questions, address concerns, offer guidance and explain the steps we take to ensure you receive the highest quality tubers and the best customer service.

Our 2025 Final Dahlia Tuber sale will begin in October once the pre-sale orders have been shipped. The website will not be restocked after this.

NEWSLETTER EMAIL
We will be sending out an email prior to the sale and update[s]. Newsletter subscribers will be the first to know about tuber sale updates, varieties, etc. If you would like to receive these emails, sign up for our newsletter and make sure that Transition Farm, peter@transitionfarm.com and info@transitionfarm.com are in your preferred senders list. We are not responsible for emails that are not received due to incorrect address, server error, spam folders or any other reason.

INVENTORY
All varieties will show as “Sold Out” prior to the sale. The website may be taken down at least one hour prior to the sale, so that we can enter inventory and will reload automatically when the sale begins. You will not need a password to shop the sale.

CART
An item placed in your cart does not mean that item is reserved. Your order is only confirmed once you checkout and receive an order confirmation number and email. Please be aware that if you are trying to purchase many different varieties some may sell out before you are able to checkout. We understand the frustration of missing out on a variety that you were hoping to purchase. Some customers have suggested completing several orders. If you do that, we cannot confirm that we can combine the orders nor refund extra postage. We do appreciate the flurry and the cost investment AND we have tried to make an efficient packing system.

COMBINING ORDERS
We are not able to confirm the ability to combine orders. Our system does not automatically do this. But if we see the opportunity to combine two orders with the same shipping address, we will do so, refund any additional postage and email and let you know.

LIMITS PER HOUSEHOLD
We may limit the purchase of some varieties. This is in order to give the opportunity to grow these varieties to as many growers as we can. Please be honest and fair, in respecting this policy. Any orders above the indicated limit or multiples to the same household may have the item refunded and/or be fully cancelled, resulting in a loss of the order in its entirety. Unfortunately we do not have the facility to automate the limit and have clearly labeled varieties with limits.

SHIPPING AND POSTAGE
Dahlia tubers will be shipped via Australia Post PRIORITY PARCEL POST service to VIC, NSW, SA and QLD ONLY
. Due to quarantine restrictions, we are unable to ship tubers to TAS, WA and NT. We do not send tubers internationally nor to any islands outside of VIC, NSW, SA and QLD.

DAHLIA TUBER POSTAGE
Because dahlia tubers are living, we take extra care in packing them to ensure they arrive to you in the same condition they leave the farm. The postage fee represents the size and weight of the parcel.

3-5 tubers: $22.00
6-20 tubers: $28.00
21-40 tubers: $34.00

Confirmation of delivery to your address AND / OR confirmation of order awaiting pickup via Australia Post Tracking is receipt of your tuber order. We are aware that parcel receipts may go missing or not be delivered. We have tried everything in our power to ensure you have a tracking number and ask that you do everything in your power to take receipt of your parcel.

Transition Farm is not responsible for parcels gone missing due to an incorrect address on the order. If you notice a mistake before the parcel is sent, please send an email immediately in hopes that we can correct it - Thank you!

Tuber shipment will begin ONCE VIABLE EYES ARE VISIBLE (late September/October) and finish by early-mid November. We cannot fulfill early shipping requests. We expect shipping of all orders made in the pre-sale and initial days of the final sale to be completed by mid- October. Orders will continue to be filled as received until the stock is sold out and/or the sale ends. Please track your order with the tracking number provided in your fulfilment email.

PLEASE NOTE - Seeds ordered with tubers will be mailed with the tuber. If you are ordering in the presale and would like your seeds sooner, please order them separately.

SHIPPING ISSUES
Once your order has been shipped and you have received an email with tracking information, we cannot be held responsible for any mishandling, delays, or lost packages caused by Australia Post. If your package is lost, damaged, delayed or stolen in transit, you will need to file a claim directly with Australia Post. We are unable to replace or refund orders affected by carrier-related issues, but we recommend reaching out to Australia Post promptly to initiate the claims process. Your tracking/reference number is listed in your fulfilment email.

WHEN YOUR TUBERS ARRIVE
Unpack & Inspect Right Away

  • Open your parcel right away.

  • Check each tuber carefully – they should feel firm (not mushy, shriveled, or mouldy).

  • A small amount of soil, dried roots, or minor surface blemishes is normal.

  • Look for “eyes” (tiny bumps or growth points) near the crown – this is where shoots will sprout.

REFUND POLICY
If you have any concerns, please contact us as soon as possible and within 7 days of receipt of the tuber.

Please email info@transitionfarm.com and provide the following:

  • Your order confirmation number;

  • A brief description of the issue.

  • Clear, focused photos of the tuber in question including Transition Farm stamp (multiple angles help);

PLEASE NOTE: info@transitionfarm.com is the ONLY point of contact for dahlia tuber issues. We cannot respond to any comment sent via social media

Once the tubers leave our farm and they have been delivered to the provided address, we entrust them to your care. You are responsible for the following:

  • Storage Conditions - Store tubers in a cool dry location until planting time, out of direct sun, heat or freezing temperatures.

  • Weather Conditions - Dahlia’s are cold sensitive. Wait to plant your tubers until the ground is at least 15°C and danger of frost has past.

  • Pest/critter damage - It is unfortunate that critters and pest also enjoy dahlias. Protecting your tubers from them

We offer information GROWING INFORMATION but cannot be held responsible for the storage of a tuber nor failure to grow once planted.

CHANGE OF MIND
We do not offer a refund or returns on any item due to change of mind. Please take your time to browse our offerings early so that you are confident with your purchase.

LIMIT OF LIABILITY
As mentioned above, the buyer assumes all risk when buying tubers. Once the tuber is past the 7 day mark, put into storage and/or placed in the ground, TRANSITION FARM can not be held responsible for outside factors that contribute to the health and vigor of the plant. Refunds will not be offered after the 7 day grace period unless the tuber does not meet our true variety guarantee, and will not exceed the cost of the tubers themselves. Transition Farm is not required to issue a refund, and is not liable for any monetary value beyond the value of the purchased tubers.

TRUE VARIETY GUARANTEE
As farmers and breeders, we understand how important it is that your plants grow true to type and that valuable field space is not wasted. If you believe there has been an error, please contact us at info@transitionfarm.com with the following:

  • Your order confirmation number;

  • Clear, focused photos of the tuber in question;

  • Photos of the flower and of the tuber itself, including (if possible) the Transition Farm stamp. (Please note: you will need to dig up the plant to capture this.).

Please do keep in mind that dahlia tubers are a replica of a diverse set of genetics. We take great care to remove from our field any variety that does not show vibrant health or degradation of traits. Phenotype changes that can occur in all varieties due to climate, temperature, soil, sunlight and the care a plant receives are beyond our control and as growers we embrace terrior and how it connects us to a place offering each of us a unique crop.

Please Note: For dahlia tuber issues, info@transitionfarm.com is the only point of contact. We are unable to respond to messages sent through via social media

DAHLIA VIRUS
According to the American Dahlia Society's virus research, an average of 87% of healthy, asymptomatic dahlia plants carry at least one dormant virus. Unfortunately, it is a common thing in the dahlia world, and we do our best to keep our plants healthy and virus free. On our farm, we are vigilant about examining plants for viruses and culling any that look diseased. Tools are cleaned and sanitized between cuts and during the dividing process. Additionally, we do not open our fields for outside harvesting.

The Dahlia Society of Australia released a statement regarding the topic of dahlia virus in Australia in January 2025. This is a subject all growers of dahlias are concerned about particularly the uncertainty of the right action to take. We sincerely thank the society and, in particular, Graeme Davis, for their [his] extensive research and consultation with respected growers and scientist in creating this statement.

DSA STATEMENT ON VIRUS IN DAHLIAS

Transition Farm is incredibly vigilant with plant inspections. We do not test every plant for viruses. Because of this, we cannot guarantee for 100% certainty that there is no dormant virus within tubers. Buyers buy at their own risk knowing and understanding this information. We do not refund for plants displaying viruses as plants can be grown in varying environments that affect the tuber after it is planted. Please also be advised that unless a plant has been officially tested, there are many outside factors that contribute to virus-like symptoms such as stunted growth, curled leaves, spots, and discoloration.

VARIETIES WITH KNOWN PRIVATE BREEDERS
Transition Farm strongly supports breeding programs of all sizes and wish to ensure that any sales we make contribute to the continuation of such valuable work. We are making efforts to contact identified dahlia breeders and engage in royalty agreements. If you are a dahlia breeder and one of your varieties is in our catalogue, please reach out via email info@transitionfarm.com.

FOR ORDERS PLACED BEFORE 8 SEPTEMBER
WE HAVE UPDATE OUR SYSTEM - The following applies to orders placed before 8 September
Our system is not perfect (we are working on a new platform). It requires for you to choose the DAHLIA TUBER TRACKED POSTAGE option. If you do not choose this option, we will send you an invoice with the amount owing. Because dahlia tubers are living, we take extra care in packing each one with peat moss and rice hulls, then nestle them in shredded paper to keep them safe and healthy on their journey to you via Australia Post. The postage fee represents the size and weight of the parcel. We kindly ask that you attend to the matter in a timely fashion. Failure to correct the issue will result either in your order being forfeited and a $30 restocking fee incurred OR the order not shipping in a timely fashion. We do ask for your understanding with this issue and appreciate your assistance and patience.

AGREEMENT
Through purchasing, you confirm that you’ve read and understood our policies and that you’re comfortable with the way they guide how we work together to provide you with the best service and product assurance.
