Tomato 'Druzba'

A$5.25

Solanum lycopersicum

Indeterminate, mid-season plants produce heavy yields of 175-225gm red tomatoes with a good balanced flavour. These are “perfectly” formed, smooth skinned, tomatoes which consistently received high taste test scores - great raw and in sauces.

We love Druzba not only in the field but in our polytunnel as the plants have a uniform, husky habit making them easy to prune. Each truss carries 6-9 mid-size fruit. They offer a better disease resilience to other heirlooms which keep our polytunnels and fields producing well into Autumn.

In addition, theses tomato have a universal appeal making them a great market seller. Their superb flavour, keep people returning for more. This Bulgarian heirloom’s name aptly translates as friendship. The balanced flavour, versatility, heavy yields of each truss combined with the longevity of the plants have kept us planting them year after year.

NOTE- Blind taste test conducted with chefs at EMBLA in Melbourne as well as independent consumer-based tomato trials. Both evaluated the taste, appearance, shape, texture and usability. Druzba scored a consistent of 8 out of 10 in all areas.

TRANSPLANT (recommended) – Start transplants 5- 6 weeks before planting date. Sow seeds 6mm deep, 4 seeds/2.5cm. Lightly cover. Keep mix at 23-28°C. Pot up into 5cm or larger cells after first set of true leaves appear. For growing transplants, maintain temperature at around 22°C during the day and 18°C at night

Harden off plants by slightly reducing temperature to 15-18°C and reducing water for 2-3 days before transplanting.

NOTE - Don't start too early—leggy, root-bound, or flowering transplants can cause stunting and reduce early production. Avoid exposing unprotected plants to consecutive nightly temperatures below 7°C.
