Foeniculum vulgare
Feathery foliage emerges as copper-red then change to bronze as chlorophyll develops. Nice addition to salads, coleslaws, and dressings. Seeds used in teas, curries and pork dishes. Good bouquet filler. Attracts beneficial insects.
Grow ‘Bronze Fennel’ for the foliage, the flowers, the pollen and/or the seed. This is not a bulbing type of fennel and will not grow the flat, thick petioles - bulb - near the base of the plant.

DIRECT SOW (recommended) - Sow as soon as possible in the spring after the last frost. Sow seeds 8mm deep, 1cm apart, in rows at least 100cm apart. It is not necessary to thin for leaf harvest, but can thin later to 15-40cm apart if larger plants or seeds are desired.
TRANSPLANT - Sow seeds 8mm deep in containers 4-6 weeks before transplanting. Transplant outside after the last frost. Transplant 15-40cm apart in rows that are at least 100cm apart.
NOTE – Remove seed heads before browning to keep from spreading invasively.
