Phlox drummondii grandiflora

Pure antique linen colour which ages into buff, profuse star-shaped blooms on strong stems with an intoxicating subtle sweetness reminiscent of muskmelon which invades the air . Easy to grow, blooms continuously from late spring through mid autumn and blends beautifully with a huge range of cut flowers adding a vintage appeal to bouquets.

Phlox glows in the cutting garden or border and the smell surrounds you. Because of its ease to grow, long bloom time, compatibility, lovely colour great for design work, good vase life and fragrance, ‘Dulce de Leche’ is a ‘must have’ for us.

DIRECT SOW: Direct seed as soon as soil can be worked in spring once the threat of frost has passed. Cover seed with 1/8" fine soil. Darkness is required for germination. Thin when first true leaves appear.

TRANSPLANT: Sow 4-6 weeks before last frost, directly into soil blocks as phlox dislikes root disturbance. Cover seed, as darkness is required for germination. Carefully transplant outdoors when first true leaves appear.

NOTE: If growing for cut flowers, we recommend spacing the plants tightly and using horizontal netting as support to encourage upright growth and taller stems.

HARVEST/VASE LIFE: Harvest when ½ the blooms have opened. The petals are delicate so take care. Vase life 5-7 days.
