Tomato 'Quadro'

A$5.25

Solanum lycopersicum

Medium-sized, productive, flavourful Roma,’ Quadro’ was bred in Germany for late blight resistance, and for growing outdoors or in the greenhouse. High yields of fruit continue late into the season. The fruit are juicier than some romas while still having a meaty flesh, good for salsas, tomato sauce and passata. Suits outdoor and indoor growing.

- Mid Season
- Indeterminant 120-150cm
- 60-100g Roma shaped red fruit
- Highly productive
- Late Blight Resistant

Bred by Harmut Spiel, as part of a Biodynamic vegetable breeding initiative, we trialled Quadro from a few growers against 10 other Roma tomatoes in our field trial. We were impressed with the overall yield of the plants, their resilience through until late in the season, and their full flavour. The tomato is rounder than another popular Roma ‘San Marzano, and slightly juicier. We found this to be more versatile for many of our preserving desires such as salsa, tomato sauce and passata. They produced better in a colder season than our favourite Roma for passata and jarring ‘Gilbertie Paste‘. And the overall yield and disease resilience was better than any other Roma we trialled.

Our seed production has continued the steward work of Common Wealth Seed Growers.

TRANSPLANT (recommended) – Start transplants 5- 6 weeks before planting date. Sow seeds 6mm deep, 4 seeds/2.5cm. Lightly cover. Keep mix at 23-28°C. Pot up into 5cm or larger cells after first set of true leaves appear. For growing transplants, maintain temperature at around 22°C during the day and 18°C at night

Harden off plants by slightly reducing temperature to 15-18°C and reducing water for 2-3 days before transplanting.

NOTE - Don't start too early—leggy, root-bound, or flowering transplants can cause stunting and reduce early production. Avoid exposing unprotected plants to consecutive nightly temperatures below 7°C.
