Millet 'Broomcorn Millet'

A$5.25

Panicum miliaceum

Seed Available Apr 2024

Graceful, arching grass with strong stems and gorgeous tassels of apple green seed pods that dangle from filament green threads.  If harvested young, the seed heads are more upright.

As they mature, they are longer, cascading from the central stem.  Further maturity offers a golden hue which works well in Autumn bouquets.  The unusual seed heads are conversation, statement fillers and can stand alone.

Easy to grow with several weeks of harvest time from one planting. A warm season ornamental grass.

DIRECT SOW(recommended) - Sow 3mm deep; cover lightly.

TRANSPLANT - Sow into cells 4-6 weeks before planting out. Do NOT Pinch. Each plant produces one seed head.

HARVEST/VASE LIFE: Fresh or dried: harvest when seed heads are still green or have turned colour, but foliage and stems are still green. To dry, stand cut stems in a container as the weight of the seed head will curve the stems gracefully; or hang in a dark, well-ventilated space. Expect a vase life of 7-14 days.
